“Most people will enjoy a good music video from their favorite artists,
but far less are aware of who actually produced and directed it.

While Duda’s passion still remains on pursuing her acting career, she has managed to balance other learning ventures. These ventures alongside her dedication and creative vision, have catapulted her into behind the scenes productions throughout Hollywood, opening opportunistic doors (e.g. producing, directing) along the way within what she calls “the magical world of entertainment.”

In 2015, K2L Entertainment located in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, invited Duda to direct the first international music video of Brazilian singer, Lexa. The video has been completed, however is yet to be released due to artist/label disagreements, which has caused the artist to transition labels.

In 2016, Duda was contacted directly to produce and direct a new single called “So Se Eu Fosse Maluca” by the up and coming K2L Entertainment pop star, Priscila Florencio better known as Priscilla. Duda was delighted to receive the invitation, however, due to a demanding schedule and a difference in style regarding Priscilla’s previous videos, she was a bit skeptical and asked for some time to think about the proposal.

Seven days after the artist’s initial request, Duda decided she would accept the invitation, as long as a few stipulations were met. If Priscilla agreed to allow Duda full creative control of the entire project, she would gladly extend her services. This was the only way Duda believed and felt comfortable that her style and vision behind the camera would remain without compromise, while still producing an exceptional video for Priscilla.

Inspired by movies such as Dirty Dancing, Footloose and Sixteen candles, Duda masterfully arranged a storyboard by carefully choosing color palettes that would give the music video a nostalgic, yet contemporary feel. Duda was also the vision behind choosing the outfits for the artists, actors, and four dancers.

Lorenzo Hanna, a professional choreographer and the CEO of Dancehall Funk, was also enlisted to be a part of the project. His inventiveness steered the movement of the dancers to the pop tune, enhancing the creative rhythm of the music video. Hanna’s work also includes choreography seen in music videos such as “Freaks” by French Montana featuring Nicki Minaj, “Start This Over” by Pierce Driessen, and “Giants” by Josh Osho featuring Childish Gambino.

When it came down to locations, Duda used her own kitchen for the opening scene of the music video. Transitioning to different sites the project was brought to the famous walk of fame located on Hollywood Blvd, as well as closing down one of the most famous diners in town, Mel’s Drive In, located in the historic Max Factor building in Hollywood. The spot is best known for being the set for several movies such as The American Drive-In by Mike Witzel, the hangout spot for rockers in the 60’s and 70’s (e.g. Frank Zappa, The Rolling Stones, Andy Warhol, and Bob Dylan), as well as the headquarters for teens during the Sunset Strip Riots.

The video “So Se Eu Fosse Maluca” highlights astounding vision and impressive originality by Duda Castro as she thrives in her abilities behind the cameras. Often we appreciate what we see on the screen, but let us not forget the artistic work that comes from the minds of those working beyond what we see.

Until next time DC readers!
